May 2006
Dear prayer partners,
Thank you for your prayers for our people in rural Queretaro. There
are a couple updates that I need to share with you then our current
requests.
- Many of you have prayed for Valle Dorado. Please continue to
pray for this area and ask God to open a lot of doors. We have
identified the man of peace and would like to get a church in his
house real soon.
- Likewise you have been praying for Sergio as he faces the hard
task of convincing his parents that he will be attending the
missionary training school in September instead of beginning his
university studies. After Sergio explained to his parents his plans
his mother was very angry with him and told him not to expect any
type of support from them, financially, through encouragement, or
anything else. I was concerned for Sergio as going against the will
of your parents is a very non-cultural thing to do in Mexico. But
Sergio is firm in his decision. Please pray for Sergio as he
finishes high school this month and then makes plans for the fall
semester with Palabra de Vida.
- Please remember to pray for Janet Gonzales as she also will
be attending the missionary training camp in September.
- You have been praying for Elena recently also. Last week at
house church Elena was very encouraged and we knew that the Lord had
been helping her through some difficult times in her home life. Her
mother is very angry with us for changing her daughter’s religion.
But when you hear Elena’s testimony you know that the change in her
life could only be from the Lord. Now as the first Christian in her
home she is facing the wrath of her mother. Elena’s sister Lupita
has also been saved but since she is only 15 it is difficult for her
to get out of the house to be in our house church. Elena reads the
Bible everyday with her younger sister Lupita after her mother
leaves for work. But all that to say this; God is moving in Elena’s
life and calling her into His service. Please pray for Elena.
Pray for boldness, wisdom, and many open doors as Elena explores
God’s call in her life.
Okay the prayer requests for this month.
- Please pray for the house church in Aquiles Serdan. We
have seen a lot of new people lately but we have not been able to
get Ishmael and his wife Julia to come back. I do not even know
exactly what happened but I do know that Ishmael’s mother has a lot
of influence over him. Also in Aquiles we want to start a second
location but this has been extremely difficult to get it started.
Our goal is to have it running before the end of June.
- Please pray for a new believer named Jorge who was saved
in Antonio’s house church two weeks ago. Jorge is losing his family
in a divorce and he is really hurting over this. Jorge came and
visited with me a couple days ago and he was really confused why his
marriage could not be healed. Unfortunately Jorge’s fife, Francesca,
is not interested in the conversion that has changed Jorge.
- Many of you are praying for Antonio Gonzales, my partner, in his
battle with Diabetes. Please continue to pray daily for Antonio;
there has been problems getting the medicine correct. Antonio is at
my side every day as we work and I thank the Lord for him.
I want to relate a story to you in closing. Seldom do we ask you to
pray for us personally. Our Lord has been very good to us and I rejoice
in the fact that He considered us worthy to serve Him in Queretaro,
Mexico. Also you need to know how the Lord provides for us in our day to
day existence and travels. About three weeks ago we went to the city of
Queretaro to do some business. As soon as we got there, the van we drove
there overheated. But this would not be a problem as we were somewhere
we could buy coolant. So we did the business we had to do and then
dumped a big bottle of coolant into the van and took off for San Juan.
About 5 minutes later we noticed the temperature climbing on the gage
and we stopped to buy some more coolant. But as quickly as I poured it
into the reservoir it was running out on the ground. I wanted to get
back to San Juan where we have a mechanic but it seemed impossible.
After another couple miles and another big bottle of coolant I was at my
wits end. I am not a mechanic and the motor on the van is almost
impossible to get to as the front is real snub-nosed. And to make
matters worse I noticed that Jody didn’t seem to share in my concern as
how we would get the van home. When I questioned her if she was going to
help me or not she replied; I have been praying that the Lord would send
a mechanic. I knew this was impossible because of our location and began
to look for the radiator leak. As I looked under the hood a man walked
up to me and looked at the van and said he could fix the leak easy. I
said to him; who are you? He said I am a mechanic and I can fix your van
if you would just step back and give me some room. Gladly I moved away
and this wee-little man began to dismantle the motor and in about 30
minutes he wiped off his hands and said it’s fixed. I said to the man,
What are you doing here and how did you know we were in need of a
mechanic?" He said he just decided to pull off the road and wait and see
if anyone broke down. I looked at Jody and she was just smiling as we
both knew the Lord had sent . . . . . Well you can finish the story how
ever you like, but we were there.
Thanks for praying for us also.
Rich and Jody
